Dr. Amir Burney
He joined the Academic Unit of Medical Education in 2009. He has a background in Orthopaedics
and Sports and Exercise Medicine, and in medical education. His professional qualifications include MMedSci – Masters in Medical education, FRCS, Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine. As Co-Director for Studies (Phase 2) he facilitates the clinical education of undergraduate medical students during Phase 2a and 2b (2nd and 3rd years). This involves overseeing the curriculum and managing the assessments. As the Academic Lead for Clinical Skills, he is responsible for the development and delivery of clinical skills education prescribed by the Sheffield curriculum across all years. He is involved in curriculum planning and delivery, and the development and implementation of
formative and summative assessments for medical students at the University of Sheffield. He is also
a tutor for the School of Nursing and the School of Dentistry in Sheffield. He leads module 3 on the GATEWAY course and is a tutor on Module 2 for the PG cert in Medical Education at Sheffield University. He is also the Educational Supervisor for Academic Foundation Doctors doing their rotation in Medical Education.
